Solo Performance
THTR 479 – a course in the writing
and performing of autobiographical “personal”
monologue. A challenging, creative, and self-empowering
course that shows the power and universality of our individual
stories. No prior experience necessary; we all have stories.
The class teaches the techniques of how unearth them,
how to write for the theatre, how to discover one’s
own voice, and how to have the courage to present them
to an audience.
See Trules’ paper, “Personal Storytelling
Bridges the Global Divide, Changing the World 1 Story
at a Time” presented in July, 2005 at the 12th International
Conference on Learning in Granada, Spain. Online at: http://www.erictrules.com/paper.html

Improvisation and Theatre
Games
THTR 122 – the notorious course Trules has taught
for 20 years at USC. A participatory workshop in creativity
and self-expression, teaching the student to loosen up,
free his/her body and voice, lose self-consciousness,
and to become more him or herself. Open to non-majors
(a majority of the class), Greeks, geeks, business and
philosophy majors – anyone who wants to open up
and learn more about themselves and their creative potential.
Learn how to “move from the center”, “say
yes to the information”, take risks in silliness
and creativity, be a better public speaker, better communicator,
and more…………

Self Expression and the Arts
| Freshman Seminar 100 – open to first or 2nd semester
freshman only. A simple, fun, and provocative forum whose
purpose is to discover what arts are available on the USC
campus, in the City of LA, and… within. Guest artists
come to class to speak about their lives/careers; trips
to “culture vulture” events in LA, weekly assignments
in creative journaling, and “one word” art assignments
that most kindergartners can do…………….. |
All classes tend to form college-length
friendships and beyond.
Sign up and become a FTM (former Trules
monologist) or FTS (former Trules student), or sign up for more
than one and become a combo FTM/FTS!!!
